Our Philosophy

Survival swimming is not just a set of techniques; it is a philosophy that centers around equipping individuals with the essential skills needed to navigate water in emergency situations. At Float First Aquatics, our philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child, should learn the skills necessary to survive in water, ensuring personal safety and instilling confidence in challenging aquatic environments. We aim to create an environment where individuals can develop a profound connection with the water, cultivate essential life skills, and embrace a positive attitude towards personal growth and water safety.

  1. Inclusivity and Accessibility: We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for every swimmer. Our program is designed to accommodate diverse learning styles and individual needs, ensuring that each swimmer feels welcome and supported on their aquatic journey.

  2. Water Competence as a Fundamental Skill: We view survival swimming as a fundamental life skill that transcends recreational purposes. Our philosophy recognizes that water competence is a critical aspect of personal safety, and we strive to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively in emergency situations.

  3. Skill Development: While we prioritize safety in and around the water, we also emphasize the gradual development of swimming skills. Our program is designed with a progressive and practical approach. We focus on teaching simple yet effective techniques that individuals can quickly grasp and apply in real-life scenarios. Recognizing each swimmer's unique pace and tailoring lessons to suit their individual abilities. The step-by-step progression ensures a solid foundation, allowing learners to build confidence and competence gradually.

  4. Water Safety Education:  We view water safety as an integral part of swim education. Providing individualized lessons allows us to incorporate essential water safety principles, equipping swimmers with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate aquatic environments responsibly.

  5. Building Confidence and Resilience Under Stress: True survival swimming involves the ability to remain calm and confident under stress. We integrate elements into our training that simulate emergency situations, providing learners with the tools to think clearly, make decisions, and execute survival techniques even when faced with challenging circumstances. My approach focuses on building confidence and resilience in swimmers. Through overcoming challenges in the water, individuals develop a sense of accomplishment that transcends beyond the pool.

  6. Positive Learning Environment: We foster a positive and supportive learning environment where swimmers can feel safe.  Earning the trust of each swimmer through patience and encouragement while celebrating achievements through positive reinforcement.

  7. Parental Involvement and Early Education: Recognizing the importance of early intervention, our programs involve parents in the learning process. We believe that educating parents about water safety and survival swimming principles creates a supportive environment for the child's learning journey, reinforcing the importance of water safety at home. At the end of the program, parents are offered the opportunity to swim with their child and the instructor. Learning a few techniques to help maintain the skills their child has just learned.

In summary, the philosophy of survival swimming at Float First Aquatics revolves around providing individuals with the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence to navigate water in emergency situations. Through progressive training, confidence-building, education, and parental involvement, we aspire to empower swimmers with the tools needed to survive and thrive in various aquatic environments while empowering individuals to embrace the water with joy and confidence, creating a foundation for a lifetime of aquatic enjoyment.
