Meet Mrs. Ilene
Born and raised in Florida, I have spent my whole life around water.
Growing up, my family enjoyed many weekends and holidays camping, fishing, water skiing and knee boarding. In addition, I swam on the high school swim team.
In 2000 I started a career at the University of Phoenix in South Florida and spent the past 18 years in higher education. During that time, I moved to Mount Dora, married my husband AJ and created a life with our 2 beautiful daughters Marissa & Alexis.
When my daughters were born I knew how important it was for them to learn to swim and during my search to find a swim instructor I stumbled across a survival swim school. This was not your typical swim lesson. The idea of teaching a child as young as 6 months to rotate onto their back into a float fascinated me and I quickly realized how valuable this skill was.
In August of 2018 I separated from the University and decided to start a new career as a survival swim instructor. I received my training and certification through the PediaSwim program at SouthWest Aquatics in Winter Garden. Part of my training included a very special group of children from one of the local Head Start programs. It was an honor to have been able to make a difference in the lives of these children.
Float First Aquatics opened in October of 2018 and is now providing survival swim instruction to children in Sorrento, FL and the surrounding areas.
